Eligibility & Requirements

To be considered for membership, applicants must have a clinical teaching and/or educational role at Boston Children’s Hospital.  All health professions educators are encouraged to apply.  Once a member, attendance at 6 sessions of Academy programming per year is required.

Standard Member Have a clinical teaching and/or educational role at BCH
  • Access to all programming including Academy Retreats
  • Professional development seminar series
  • Teaching consultation
1. Participation in a yearly minimum of 6 hours of Academy activities. Activities may include the following:
  • attend or lead Academy seminars/retreats
  • participate in peer observation of teaching
  • mentor academy members on educational projects/ education research/curriculum development
  • serve as a teaching coach
  • review CEEI grants and CME/CE proposals

2. Completion of Academy seminar feedback surveys

3. Submission of annual report

Scholar Member
  • Have a clinical teaching and/or educational role at BCH
  • Commitment to a scholarly pursuit in education (must have a project idea)
  • Access to all Academy programming
  • Participation in a project group for guidance and support
  • Project consultation assistance

1. Participation in a yearly minimum of 6 hours of activities including:
    • >4 sessions of participation in a scholar group

The additional 2 (or more) hours can include the following:

  • attend or lead Academy seminars/retreats
  • attend special scholar member seminars

3. All scholars are encouraged to present a work-in-progress to their scholar project group every year

4. Submission of annual report

Trainee Member*
* May opt to become a standard or scholar member. Scholar membership requires >3 scholar group sessions
Interest in pursuing health professions education as part of one’s career
  • Access to all programming including Academy Retreats
  • Professional development seminar series
6 hours of participation per year (can include health professions education programming in residency or fellowship)
