Foundations Certificate Program


Overview

The Certificate Program in Foundations of Health Professions Education Research aims to empower health professions educators with the foundational skills necessary for the design and conduct of educational research. The program is comprised of 6 individual Short Courses, which may be taken independently or combined to achieve a Certificate.

Certificate Objectives

  • Develop a strong foundation in educational research principles among BCH Health Professions Educators (HPEs)
  • Promote ethical standards and best practices in Health Professions Education Research
  • Enhance competence in scholarly writing and communication
  • Support HPEs to contribute to the advancement of the field

Component Short Courses & Timeline

Each of the Short Courses focuses on a key skill or topic in educational research. All courses include opportunities for hands-on practice and application of learning through virtual, live sessions. Short Courses can be taken in any order and will not overlap with one another.*

Certificate Completion Requirements

  • Completion of all required Short Courses
  • Participation in all associated short course workshops, activities, and surveys
  • A final portfolio, containing:
    • Homework/reflections from each required Short Course
    • A final Certificate reflection on overall lessons learned and applied
    • Any scholarly outputs achieved (e.g. papers, presentations)
    • Next steps in scholarship journey
  • Completion of end of Certificate evaluation survey

Who is this for?

The program is open to all BCH Academy members and BCH fellows. The Certificate is aimed at health professions educators who want to develop their educational research skills. The courses are designed for those with relatively less research experience, though others may benefit from skills enhancement in specific areas.

BCH Academy Members and Fellows will be notified of new Short Course offerings as they become available. Short courses will be repeated, and may be taken in any order to achieve the Certificate Completion Requirements.
