Develop a Course

Boston Children’s Hospital is accredited to provide continuing education credit to internal and external education programs. All programs seeking accreditation must submit a completed application to be reviewed by our office or the interprofessional committee at least eight weeks prior to the start of the course.

Types of Credit

Boston Children’s offers the following credits to qualified courses:

AMA PRA Category 1 Credit
Risk Management Credit
MOC Credit, American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), American Board of Anesthesia (ABA)
Nursing Contact Hours
Pharmacy Contact Hours
Athletic Trainer Credit
Psychology Credit
Physician Assistant Credit
Optometry Credit
Dentistry Credit

Additionally, we can assist with the application process, but do not hold accreditation for:

Physical Therapist Credits
Social Work Credits

Types of Courses

The course format is decided by the program organizers. We currently approve courses in the following formats:

Course Format Description
Live Courses an individual event where participants learn in person
Enduring Materials (online only) computer based continuing education activities that may be used over time or at the learner’s convenience
Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS) (internal only) a course that is planned as a series with multiple sessions, or occurs on an ongoing basis (ex. weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc)

Committee Review and Approval

Once the Joint Accreditation continuing education application is completed and submitted to continuingeducation@childrens.harvard.edu, it will be presented to the appropriate committee for review and accreditation approval.

Joint Accreditation Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) Committee

The IPCE Committee meets on a monthly basis. Applications are presented to the Committee for approval at that time. Individual activity directors may be asked to attend the IPCE Committee meeting and respond to any questions concerning the activity before credit is designated. If edits are necessary, the IPCE Committee will provide edits necessary for approval.
