Overview
Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship

Program Description
The Pediatric Hospital Medicine Program at Boston Children’s Hospital was created in 1998 and is one of the oldest pediatric hospitalist programs in the country. The PHM program is committed to providing outstanding clinical care for hospitalized pediatric patients, educating our pediatric house staff and medical students, performing meaningful clinical research, and serving in many healthcare quality improvement roles.
As part of this commitment, the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital was created to offer fellows focused training and strong mentorship in medical education, clinical research, quality improvement, health equity, clinical informatics, and health services research – all while honing each fellow’s ability to deliver specialized care for hospitalized children.
Our curriculum spans three years to accommodate the broad scope of clinical and educational experiences offered; fellows will complete the ACGME portion of training in the first two years, followed by a third year of unsupervised clinical practice while completing their advanced degree.
The first two years of training includes dedicated core rotations on general pediatric inpatient services, as well as exposure to other general areas of hospital-based medicine: complex care, newborn care, sedation, critical care, and co-management with non-medical services. Individualized rotations are tailored to the interests of the fellow.
The core curriculum also includes general training in hospital systems and academic scholarship: Medical Education, Patient Safety, Clinical Research, Quality Improvement, Heath Equity, Evidence-Based Medicine, Leadership, and Business Administration. During their 2nd and 3rd year, fellows have protected time to pursue a fully funded master’s degree through any of the Harvard Schools including but not limited to the TH Chan School of Public Health (Masters of Public Health, Masters of Science) or Harvard Medical School (Masters of Healthcare Quality and Safety, Masters of Medical Sciences in Medical Education, Masters of Biomedical Informatics).
Our Mission
To train academic leaders in the field of pediatric hospital medicine by providing advanced experiences in hospital-based clinical care, medical education, quality improvement, and clinical research.
Our Values
We value diversity and are committed to recruiting and supporting fellows from diverse backgrounds and experiences and will not tolerate discrimination or acts of intolerance.
