First Year Fellows

Jeanette Beaute (pronounced “Beauty”)

Jeanette was born in Brooklyn, NY, but raised in Providence, Rhode Island. She then moved north for college, attending Boston University, where she obtained a degree in Neuroscience. After graduation, she worked at Boston Children’s Hospital for three years as a clinical research coordinator in the Neurology department, where her passion for clinical research and pediatrics blossomed. She then moved to central Massachusetts to study medicine at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School. She returned to Boston to complete a pediatric residency at Mass General for Children and also enjoyed completing a chief resident year. Jeanette is excited to be staying in Boston with her husband, Ethan, who recently completed an emergency medicine residency, and their one-year-old son, Hunter. When not in the hospital, they enjoy going to the park, taking bike rides in the arboretum, and going for a swim. In addition to clinical practice, Jeanette hopes to combine her clinical work with her interests in clinical research, medical education, and diversity and inclusion.

Caroline Burke

Caroline (she/her) hails from the great state of Rhode Island, where she developed a love for New England’s seasons and seafood. She studied Social Studies at Harvard before spending three years working in consulting in New York. More recently, she returned home for medical school at Brown before completing general emergency medicine residency at UCSF. While she loved her California adventure (ask her for Bay Area road trip ideas!) she’s excited to be back in the Northeast for fellowship. Academically, she is interested in medical education and QI, particularly thinking the intersection of pediatric and general EM. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys exploring the many coffee shops and restaurants in Cambridge, live music, and walks/runs along the Charles.

Ayesha Dholakia

Ayesha grew up in Sandy Hook, CT and attended Dartmouth College for undergrad.  She briefly detoured to NYC, the warmest place she’s lived so far, to work in foster care.  She took a detour to Chicago, the best city, for med school but couldn’t stay away from New England and returned for residency in the Boston Combined Residency Program.  Her time outside of work is taken up almost entirely by hanging out with/walking with/keeping up with her 9 month old daughter and dog (named Wrigley for the Cubs!).  She is passionate about advocacy/research focused on firearm violence prevention as well as on trauma-informed care and health equity broadly.

Stephanie “Steph” Hadley

Steph grew up in Hopkinton, MA, then attended Harvard for undergrad. She moved south to Nashville for medical school at Vanderbilt, where she met her now husband, Preston, playing pickup soccer. She took a year off of medical school to do a research fellowship in Barcelona and travel around Europe, then returned back to Boston for residency in the BCRP.  Outside of work, Steph loves doing any outdoor activity (especially fall hikes!) with Preston and their dog, Boomer, and loves to travel. She’s very excited for PEM fellowship and for a future career in academic pediatric emergency medicine.

Isabel Hardee

Isabel hails from beautiful Alexandria, VA. She attended medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, then headed west, informed by her childhood as a Boy Scout and love of trail running, to Colorado Children’s for Pediatrics residency. Her residency was extended by a year spent studying young children with high risk of asthma who present to the ED, and she looks forward to a career of adding evidence to PEM practice as a physician scientist. In her spare time, she loves caring for her hundred house plants and city garden, practicing Spanish, hosting board game nights, and hopes to start training for her next Ironman once she gets the hang of this whole fellowship thing!”

Second Year Fellows

Janine Amirault

Janine grew up south of Boston and attended Boston College for undergrad.  She then moved to DC for medical school at George Washington, however, after realizing that she was not cut out for the humidity, she returned home for the Boston Combined Residency Program.  Outside of the hospital she can be found riding her bike around the city (many bike lanes) and beyond (especially the Provincetown Dunes/National Seashore), doing yoga, and test cooking gluten free recipes (some wins, some losses). She also loves exploring restaurants, especially in Cambridge where she lives with her partner and personal surf instructor Mike.  In addition to clinical practice, she hopes to continue clinical research as a way to improve emergency care for pediatric populations.

Joshua Dodderer

Joshua was born in California before making several detours on his way to Abilene, Texas, where he was raised. He attended college at Dallas Baptist University and afterwards embraced the desert of El Paso for medical school and his MPH. Joshua and his wife, Madison, then transplanted themselves to New England, where he completed residency in the Boston Combined Residency Program. He is excited to stay in Boston for fellowship and continue his New England adventures with his wife, dog, and son. Together, they enjoy visiting the many New England coastal and mountain towns, cheering on Boston sports’ teams, finding all the best running routes and races in the area, and attending their local church. Joshua has participated in global health projects and clinical care in Mexico and the border region, Jamaica, India, Liberia, and with the Indian Health Services in South Dakota. He is passionate about implementing clinical guidelines and improving access to pediatric emergency care in resource-limited settings as well as participating in medical education in both the domestic and global environment.

Katherine “Kate” Douglas

Kate grew up in Connecticut and attended Washington University in St. Louis for medical school. She returned to New England for residency in the Boston Combined Residency Program. She can be found running, picnicking, or kayaking on the Esplanade, and taking advantage of the mountains up north to hike and ski. When she isn’t outside, she loves spending time with friends and family, and baking. She is excited for a career in PEM, hoping to use advocacy and research to improve access to care and health equity.

Michael “Fish” Fishman

Fish grew up in New Orleans, then went to medical school in Chicago followed by residency in the Boston Combined Residency Program, trading in the hot, humid summers for snowy, cold winters (but also still hot, humid summers).  Teaming up with his wife and dog, Fish spends most of his time chasing after his one year old daughter and trying to make her smile and laugh. When not spending time with his family and dog, he enjoys playing soccer and pretending his joints don’t ache, strumming the guitar, and dodging Boston drivers on his bike. He is passionate about medical education and working to optimize the learning environment for trainees through improved feedback delivery and assessment mechanisms.

Lukas Gaffney

Lukas was born and raised in Newton, MA. He then worked his way down the east coast going to Princeton for undergrad and University of Miami for med school before returning home to Boston for residency. Outside the ED, Lukas can be found running, playing golf, or going out for ice cream with his wife and son. Lukas hopes to combine clinical practice with his academic interests in health services research with a focus on health equity, medical education, and simulation.

Jane Jarjour

Jane was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Texas in middle school, where she attended Rice University (go Owls!) and completed medical school at Baylor College of Medicine. She moved to Denver for her pediatrics residency at the University of Colorado and enjoyed learning many outdoorsy activities including hiking (even a 14er!), backpacking, and snowshoeing! During the COVID pandemic, she worked on the front-lines as a pediatrician in urgent care in Dallas and Houston for 2 years. She found her way back to the best specialty and is thrilled to be in PEM fellowship! She still loves nature and has thoroughly enjoyed all the beautiful seasons of New England, especially the Fall. Her academic interests include improving health for children around the world through advancing partnerships and medical education, tropical medicine and traveler’s health, and point-of-care-ultrasound. She is currently working on a project that incorporates lung ultrasound to improve the diagnosis of pneumonia in children in the emergency department.
