Dermatology | Fellowship Program

Overview
The Boston Children’s Hospital Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship Training Program offers advanced training in cutting-edge pediatric dermatologic care. Our fellowship is designed for fellows who are passionate about advancing their careers in pediatric dermatology and making a lasting impact on the health and well-being of children and teenagers.
Key features of the fellowship
- Comprehensive clinical experience: Fellows are exposed to a broad spectrum of dermatologic disorders, including complex and rare conditions, while caring for a diverse patient population from around the globe. The Boston Children’s Dermatology Section consists of 10 full-time and five part-time attending physicians with a wide range of special interest. We manage more than 15,500 outpatient visits and more than 500 inpatient consults annually. Fellows spend eight half-days per week in ambulatory clinics or procedural settings, evaluating patients with a wide range of dermatologic conditions. Fellows have a dedicated weekly continuity clinic, where they gain increasing autonomy, preparing them for independent practice in the future.
- Subspecialty and multidisciplinary clinic exposure: The program offers the opportunity to rotate through a variety of interdisciplinary and specialty clinics, including vascular anomalies, dermatology-oncology, dermatology-rheumatology, genodermatoses, atopic dermatitis, patch testing, acne/peeling, and hair clinics. Fellows receive in-depth pulsed-dye laser training.
- Scholarly activity: Fellows are actively engaged in a variety of scholarly activity to support both their academic and clinical development. A quarterly journal club provides an opportunity for fellows and faculty to review and discuss the latest advancements in pediatric dermatology. Fellows also participate in bimonthly Pediatric Dermatology Grand Rounds, where they collaborate with faculty and experienced dermatopathologists to discuss challenging cases. In addition, a faculty-led teaching curriculum has been developed to cover all key topics in pediatric dermatology, ensuring that fellows are thoroughly prepared for the next stage of their careers.
- Research opportunities: Our fellowship includes dedicated time for research, supported by highly expert faculty who are experienced mentors and eager to assist trainees with their research projects.
- Mentorship and professional development: Fellows receive personalized mentorship from pediatric dermatologists in a supportive environment that emphasizes humility, dedication, excellence, and personal well-being. Our program fosters the development of fellows as compassionate clinicians, thoughtful educators, and visionary leaders. Weekly meetings with the Program Director and Associate Program Director provide ongoing opportunities for fellows to discuss research strategies and strengthen mentor relationships throughout the year.
- State-of-the-art facilities: Boston Children’s Hospital is a quaternary care center recognized for its excellence in clinical care, innovative research, and education, and is widely regarded as one of the premier institutions for pediatric healthcare in the world. The fellowship is conducted in the main Boston Children’s Hospital campus at 300 Longwood Ave., Boston. Fellows also participate in the Jimmy Fund dermatology-oncology clinic at Dana-Farber. Inpatient consultations are seen in Boston, and in the Intensive Care and Newborn Nurseries at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
- Collaborative environment: Fellows have the opportunity to collaborate with, supervise, and teach outstanding pediatric residents at Boston Children’s, as well as dermatology residents from Harvard Medical School. They receive strong support from our dedicated nursing and tech teams. Additionally, fellows have two half-days per week for academic time, allowing them to focus on research projects or further clinical responsibilities.
- Flexible training: Our program supports fellows’ individual career goals, offering flexibility to focus on areas that align with their future practice and professional aspirations. Boston Children’s offers a diverse array of specialty clinics, including neurofibromatosis, Sturge-Weber, and tuberous sclerosis clinics, among others. Fellows have the opportunity to actively participate in these specialized clinics, further enriching their clinical experience.
