Description
Overview
This seminar delves into the integration of structured literacy, progress monitoring, and dynamic assessment for language and literacy, enhancing the connection between assessment and intervention while addressing the diverse needs of all students.
Part 1: Innovations in Language Sample Analysis Using the CUBED-3:
Explore the CUBED-3 tool which incorporates advanced AI and real-time scoring to refine language sample analysis. This session highlights how speech-language pathologists and other educators can utilize these innovations to identify students in need of targeted language interventions efficiently, thereby fostering equitable language and literacy development. |
|
Part 2: Leveraging Structured Literacy Through Story Champs:
This segment focuses on the evidence-based principles of structured literacy and their application in educational settings. Participants will learn about the specific language targets within multi-tiered, explicit, systematic, sequential, and cumulative instruction. The presentation will demonstrate the significant impacts of structured literacy on literacy improvement and offer hands-on practice for implementing these strategies effectively in classrooms. |
|
Part 3: Dynamic Assessment of Language and Literacy – Accurate Diagnosis and Tier-1 Screening:
The accuracy of diagnosing developmental language disorder (DLD) and dyslexia in culturally and linguistically diverse populations is often compromised by traditional norm-referenced assessments that exclude diverse students from their normative samples. Addressing this critical gap, this session highlights the DYMOND as a dynamic assessment tool that not only overcomes cultural and linguistic biases but also excels in diagnostic accuracy. Designed specifically for diverse educational settings, the DYMOND also serves as an efficient Tier-1 universal screening tool, ensuring all children are fairly and validly evaluated. Participants will learn advanced techniques for administering, scoring, and interpreting this assessment, and will explore its strategic application across multiple educational contexts to identify and support students with language and literacy needs. |
|
Each session is designed to equip educators and clinicians with the tools to implement data-driven interventions that respond to the varied language and literacy needs of students across educational settings. Join us for a comprehensive exploration of modern strategies to elevate language and literacy outcomes.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:
1. Identify specific language targets that can be addressed in multi-tiered, explicit, systematic, sequential, cumulative, and diagnostic language instruction.
2. Describe the key features of structured literacy for language.
3. Describe dynamic assessment and the current evidence of validity for language and decoding assessment.
