Overview

Boston Children’s Hospital is happy to partner with Optum MA for the 14th annual Advancing Integration of Care Course. This course is developed specifically for Optum MA clinicians and will be held on two separate evenings on Wednesday November 5th and Thursday November 20th. The course format is a virtual lecture via zoom with time for questions and answers from learners.

The relationship Boston Children’s has developed with Optum MA is part of the foundation of the collaborative relationship. Each year, Optum MA reviews its strategic priorities for clinical care to inform the topics for the event. This course offers an opportunity for primary care clinicians to learn with subspecialists with the goal of improving patient and family-centered care integration.

Course Format 

This year’s course will be fully digital and be presented online, via Zoom.

Learning Objectives: 

At the conclusion of this educational program, learners will be able to:

Dermatology: Pediatric Hypopigmentation, Hair Loss, and Unusual Presentations

  • Develop and apply a comprehensive differential diagnosis for pediatric hypopigmentation and formulate evidence-based treatment strategies.
  • Construct a diagnostic and management plan for pediatric hair loss, integrating clinical clues and current therapeutic options.
  • Recognize and interpret atypical presentations of common pediatric dermatologic conditions to avoid misdiagnosis and delayed treatment.

Concussion Update: Evaluation, Return-to-Play, and Management

  • Highlight key elements of the initial office-based concussion evaluation and optimal timeline for reassessment.
  • Discuss specifics about reintroducing academics and exercise in a stepwise fashion.
    • Formulate individualized return-to-sport recommendations based on current concussion recovery guidelines and patient-specific factors.
  • Communicate guidelines for referral to specialty care and the risk factors for prolonged recovery and its management . 
    • Assess cumulative concussion risk and counsel patients and families on when permanent removal from contact sports may be warranted.
  • Understand the utility of computer based screening and specific elements of the testing that inform management.

ADHD and Stimulants: A Contemporary Literature Review

  • Summarize key findings from recent literature revisiting the Multimodal Treatment of ADHD study and discuss implications for clinical practice.
  • Analyze current evidence regarding long-term stimulant use, including benefits, risks, and monitoring strategies.
  • Conduct a comprehensive evaluation of adolescents presenting with first-time ADHD symptoms, differentiating from other behavioral or mood disorders.

Headache Syndromes: Diagnosis, Management, and Referral

  • Differentiate between primary and secondary headache syndromes using clinical criteria and diagnostic tools.
  • What are the indicators of a primary headache syndrome.
  • Identify the red flags that warrant urgent referral to emergency room and/or pediatric neurology for further evaluation.
  • Understand the unique elements of Migraine diagnosis and the management strategies including abortive and preventive therapies.
  • Integrate behavioral and lifestyle interventions into headache treatment plans to reduce reliance on medication.
  • Select and implement appropriate pharmacologic and/or non-pharmacologic treatment modalities for pediatric headache management.

Online Course Cancellation, Transfer & Refund Policy

Due to the propriety materials and content of each course, online virtual courses orders are NOT eligible for refund, cancellation or transfer.

Other Terms and Conditions:
Online training courses may NOT be transferred to another Participant. Participants have 2 weeks to access any virtual online course content. Participants have until the expiration date to access and complete any enduring material courses. Boston Children’s Hospital CE is not responsible for user technical difficulties including loss of internet, power outages, etc. 

Cancellation of Services
Although highly unlikely, in case an event is canceled or postponed, Boson Children’s can provide a full refund or offer a credit towards future events to those who have already registered.

In support of improving patient care, Boston Children’s Hospital is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Boston Children’s Hospital designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ™. Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in this activity.

Physician Assistant

Boston Children’s Hospital designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ™. Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in this activity.

Nurse

Boston Children’s Hospital designates this activity for 5.00 contact hours for nurses. Nurses should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Dietitian

This course has been approved for 5.00 CPEUs. Completion of this RD/DTR profession-specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE=One CPEU). RDs and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their activity log. Sphere and Competency selection is at the learner’s discretion.

MOC II

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the activity, with individual assessments of the participant and feedback to the participant, enables the participant to earn:

5.00 points in the MOC II (American Board of Pediatrics)
