Newborn Medicine Summer Student Research Program

A note from the directors

The application period for summer 2025 will be open in winter 2024.

To all students interested in the research and clinical aspects of Newborn Medicine:

The Summer Student Research Program is sponsored by the Harvard Program in Neonatology, an academic program which includes Boston Children’s Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). The objective of the Summer Student Research Program is to provide motivated students with an intensive laboratory and clinical research experience under the guidance of faculty and fellow mentors from the Academic Program. We encourage applicants from underrepresented groups to apply.

The summer program experience includes:

  • An eight-week program of:
    • Observation of newborn care in hospital nurseries, clinics, and NICUs
    • Bench, clinical/translational, or epidemiological research
    • Weekly tutorials
  • Supervision and guidance provided by faculty and fellow mentors
