Harvard Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Training Program | Overview

The Harvard Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Training Program is based in the Division of Newborn Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH). Originally founded by Dr. Mary Ellen Avery as the Joint Program in Neonatology in 1974, the Harvard Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Training Program has an unparalleled track record of training physician scientists.  Over 200 alumni have held positions at preeminent institutions in the U.S. and internationally, including leadership positions as Division Chiefs and Pediatric Department Chairs.

Our program takes full advantage of BCH’s rich clinical, scientific, and higher education resources. Through a curriculum that emphasizes individual scholarly goals and clinical excellence, the Harvard Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Training Program prepares highly accomplished post-residency fellows for leadership roles in academic neonatal-perinatal medicine. A comprehensive clinical experience is provided in four Harvard neonatal intensive care units:  Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Massachusetts General Hospital.  Scholarly activity and research are carefully focused on each fellow’s interests, encompassing a broad range of cutting edge topics in basic and translation science, neonatal epidemiology and health services research, and clinical investigation.  Highly engaged and experienced mentors both within Boston Children’s Hospital and in the broader Boston academic community ensure a vibrant and productive environment for young investigators.
